Nick's work tackled the distribution and role of anoxygenic, photosynthetic Fe(II)-oxidizing bacteria in modern ferruginous lakes. As part of a larger team, we explored how carbon is cycled in these conditions, which are increasingly recognized in modern lakes, and relevant to understanding global carbon cycling on the early, Fe-rich Earth.
